It matters not about gender. It is the words that are important. I recently read Robert Galbraith’s first two novels, who is, of course, J.K. Rowling. They were unputdownable! didn’t read any Harry Potter though.

I read both it depends on how they think… I read a lot of Stephen King novels he is my favorite!
